BING TALKS ABOUT ELVIS
Today would have been the 76th birthday of Elvis Presley. Although Elvis is dubbed the king of Rock n Roll, Bing is the king of popular music. Here is an interesting audio interview Bing did with his biographer Pete Martin in 1957, and they talk about Elvis Presley...
The link between Crosby and Presley? Dean Martin. Elvis was a fan of Dean's vocal style, and of course Martin regularly noted he was following in Bing's tradition. (Of course, Elvis grew up in a completely different environment and time, and his influences were different -- although, like Bing, he adapted elements of black and country music and made it his own.)
Heck, listen to Crosby's 1931 hit "Out Of Nowhere," and it eerily presages Presley.

What a great clip, David!
ReplyDeleteBTW his biographer is Pete Martin, not Moore.
